The Duchess of Sussex is constantly being talked about in the media… for the good, and more often than not the bad. What’s Meghan’s secret for handling bad press and keeping her head held high? Keep reading to find out.
It all started when Meghan first began dating Harry. In fact, her harassment from the press got so bad Prince Harry issued a royal statement about it in 2016.
The statement explained that he was “worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.” It also detailed the harassment Meghan and her loved one’s had received at the start of the relationship.
Reporters and photographers attempted to illegally enter her home, her mother and coworkers were bombarded, and even now Meghan’s own father and siblings have publicly betrayed her to the press.
So our question, how does Meghan handle all of this and still maintain her self-confidence?
Unfortunately, Harry’s statement did little to change Meghan’s public treatment. Yet, she has managed the hate and does not let it stop her from living her life.
Our thoughts on how she does this? In an interview with Anne Mcelvoy, the senior editor of The Economist, Meghan reveals a secret that helps her manage the scrutiny. Are you ready for this…
“I don’t read anything.” She explained, “It’s much safer that way, but equally that’s just my own personal preference, because I think positive or negative, it can all sort of just feel like noise to a certain extent these days.”
While it surely takes confidence and self-control to avoid reading all press, we applaud Meghan for brushing off the constant negative coverage. We are sure this helps the Duchess hold her head high and continue doing what she views as right.
A recent Vanity Fair article also details that sources say “the duchess has remained positive by not reading any press, good or bad, and by leaning on her husband, who is ‘100 percent devoted.’”
Prince Harry is clearly willing to break protocol and support his wife through it all. From issuing an unusual royal statement in defense of Meghan at the start of their relationship to now, he has her back.
Harry’s mother Princess Diana was also subject to lots of bad press. The unfortunate difference? She did not have the same support from her husband at the time and instead fell into depression during her royal experience.
We are sure Harry is aware of this, and is likely going out of his way to ensure his wife does not have the same experience.
Meghan also has a strong group of friends who support her.
The list includes Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey, and Priyanka Chopra. Despite Meghan receiving the most hate out of the royals, she also has a huge group of fans.
Hopefully Meghan continues to hold her head high. And of course, she will always have the support of her fans, friends, and loving husband.
