The Duchess of Sussex rose to acting fame through her role as Rachel Zane in the television series Suits. Shockingly, Meghan Markle’s Suits audition was “terrible,” or at least she thought so. You need to hear how it went wrong.
Although it is hard to image the Duchess of Sussex as being anything but perfect, even she makes mistakes. Meghan wrote in her old blog The Tig in 2015 that after her first Suits audition she thought she “blew it.”
Her blog also read, “I kept forgetting my lines, I was distracted.” She explained, “I wasn’t in a place to be able to let it go. I wanted it, and I lost my shot at it.”
According to The Sun, when Markle returned home from the audition she ate away her troubles with “pizza and quesadillas.” The Duchess of Sussex is way too relatable on this one.
Despite thinking she lost her chance, Meghan was called back to do a test read. She explained that the callback had Suits producers and network executives.
Markle wrote in her post, “Those suits were about to decide my fate for what would end up being known the world over as Suits.” It’s wild for us to imagine Meghan Markle being intimidated by anything.
The Duchess of Sussex gives us a window into her pre-royal life as she further explains her test audition. She really is just like us… or at least she was.
Meghan was given a note at the last minute to wear something more conservative. She humorously recalls, “There was no Tom Ford pencil skirt.”
“Nor a pair of Louboutins on my feet, a Prada blouse was many moons away on Rodeo Drive, and I’d had my hair blown out at DryBar because it was close to my house and what I could afford.”The Tig
Our favorite Duchess was your typical starving actress doing her best to make it big. She showed up at the audition with no clue how much it would change the course of her life.
Shortly after receiving her callback audition, Meghan Markle learned that she got the part. Her costars included Patrick J Adams and Rick Hoffman.
The Duchess recalled that “I had no idea that this late August morning of 2011 would change my life.” Particularly after having endured countless rejections from previous auditions.
She also explained that the American law show was “The Goldilocks of my acting career – where finally I was just right.”
Meghan Markle went on to star in Suits from 2011-2018, and stayed for seven seasons. It was this role that launched her into the social groups that would eventually result in her meeting Prince Harry.
After getting engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle left Suits to focus on the duties of royal life. Yet, we will never forget how initially Meghan thought she lost this life-changing role.
