Now that the Royal Highnesses are on vacation, fans have been following their Africa tour via the official royal Instagram account. And this week, Meghan Markle took a photo specifically for the former first lady, Michelle Obama.
After nearly a week of travels, their Instagram feed is full of vibrant photos. The debut of their journey began with a picture of the royal beau, Prince Harry.
Though the photo that kicked-off their trip highlights Harry, Meghan made a spotlight appearance on a photo from the former first lady’s Instagram.
While Meghan makes her way through South Africa, she and Harry attended a reception at the British High Commissioner’s residence. This reception gave Meghan the opportunity to meet some of Michelle’s favorite ladies.
Last year, Michelle founded the Girls Opportunity Alliance, a non-profit that hopes to empower adolescent girls around the world. And, lucky for us, we got to see Meghan pictured with these powerful women on Michelle’s Instagram.
Nelson Mandela University student, Sithembele Ncube, told the Herlad Live about her royal-encounter with the Duchess. “I still cannot believe it,” Ncube said. The student attended the reception as a representative for local leaders of the Obama Foundation.
Pictured to the right of Meghan, Ncube said, “She just asked to take a picture with me to send to Michelle Obama…I was gob-smacked because I am a huge fan of Michelle as well.”
What was more noteworthy was the caption Michelle wrote:
“Thank you to my friend, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex @sussexroyal, a thoughtful leader who is breaking the mold and making our world better for it. Whether meeting with our @ObamaFoundation Leaders or helping girls around the world seek the education they deserve, she is an inspiration to so many.”
We feel the same Michelle, Meghan truly is “an inspiration to many.”
