On Friday, the Duchess made her way to the US Open in New York to support long-time friend Serena Williams. The last-minute trip was a commercial flight from Heathrow, London. A slight change from her normal flying arrangements after private-jet privilege drama just last month. Meghan Markle arrived in Flushing Meadows, New York just seven hours after Serena successfully won the semi-finals.
The Royal’s presence was especially surprising because Prince Harry and Baby Archie weren’t by her side. This trip marks Meghan’s first travel plans overseas since having the royal baby. And, her first trip to New York since her baby shower earlier this year. This, of course, also caused some drama with haters who didn’t think a mother should leave her child for such a long time. Clearly Meghan can’t win.
Though she did not have the company of her boys, spectators saw her fiddling with a gold necklace adorned with an “H” and “A” while watching Williams compete against 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the US tennis championship.
The necklace spotlights two tiny diamonds, the work of Mini Mini, one of the many brands the Royal has been showcased wearing. It was a sentimental choice for her trans-Atlantic journey. She paired this dainty piece with a denim J Crew mid-length dress and grey sweater cloaked over her shoulders. And, just below her necklace, gold-framed sunglasses clipped onto her neckline.
