Royally Cute: Meghan Markle and Her Dogs

We all know Meghan Markle adores animals, but there is a special place in her heart reserved for canines. Let’s take a look at Meghan Markle and her dogs.

His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle

Guy has managed to make a seemly transition into royal life. Not only is he rumored to have ridden to the Royal Wedding with Queen, but he is the subject of his own book entitled His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle’s Rescue Dog. That is not to bad for a dog who, according to the Guardian, started out in a kill shelter in Kentucky.

“It’s a total fairytale,” Alison Preiss of Pet Valu told the Guardian. Pet Valu was the Ontario pet store where Meghan adopted Guy in 2015. “Here is this dog that was in a shelter, nobody wanted him, and through this wonderful adoption he’s now living in a palace, running around with the royal family.”

To Oz, or Not to Oz?

Late last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex added a new rescue pup to their family. It was initially reported that this Black Labadore’s name was Oz, but that has since been disputed. The pup’s actual name seems to remain a bit of a mystery. However, one fact remains clear: It is a rescue just like Meghan’s two earlier dogs.

All of Meghan’s dogs have been rescues, and the latest reports coming out of Britain seem to suggest she wants to pass that tradition onto the next generation. According to Vanity Fair, the Duchess of Sussex wants her son’s first dog to be a rescue as well. The report suggests that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking to add a third dog to join Guy and the mysterious Black Lab, and that this dog would be “for Archie.”

Royal Patron of Dogs

Meghan’s love and support of dogs took on a more official role earlier this year when the animal welfare charity Mayhew was named as one of her Royal Patronages. Mayhew’s website laudes their new patron’s involvement. “We are thrilled that HRH shares our commitment to improving the lives of animals,” the website states. “…and are extremely excited to make a real difference to dogs, cats and communities together.”

Whether it is in an official role or not, it is clear that Meghan will continue to love and support not only dogs, but all animals. But especially dogs.
