Anyone who knows anything about the new Duchess of Sussex knows that she is an avid animal lover. She has devoted a large part of her personal and public life to the care and well-being of animals. However, There is a special place in her heart reserved for the canine species. Let’s take a look at Meghan Markle and her dogs.
Before Meghan met Harry, there were two very special guys in her life — Bogart and Guy. Bogart and Guy quickly became hits on Meghan’s Instagram feed, drawing love and admiration from many of her followers. Both of these furry fellows were rescue dogs, and lived with her in Toronto.
Bogart was Meghan’s first dog. She adopted him when he was a puppy from a shelter in Los Angeles. According to a 2016 interview with Best Health, Meghan was trying to decide whether or not to adopt Bogart when Ellen Degeneres walked in and convinced her to do it.
“Now, I don’t know her,” Meghan told Best Health during the interview, “but Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’ And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!’ … And so I brought him home. Because Ellen told me to.”
According to an article in the Express, Bogart was too old to make the move with Meghan when she relocated to London. It was decided that it was kinder to let him stay in Toronto with friends.
Bogart’s partner in crime was a lovable Beagle named Guy. Guy was also a rescue, but unlike Bogart he was able to make the move with Meghan when she left Toronto.
